Researchers
A scientific approach to piano pedagogy, by its very nature, must
bring art and science together. This convergence is not straightforward. It
must be done within a multidisciplinary framework and bring together musicians
who are interested in research and researchers who are interested in music.
There are several levels of analysis relating to piano performance,
which taken together lead to a better understanding of learning and the mastery
of piano performance. Computer science and biomechanical engineers, cognitive
psychologists, health scientists, neuroscientists, audio-visual specialists,
software developers, and musicians are working together, sharing their
knowledge and expertise with the objective of providing the research equipment
and the research protocols that would allow a better understanding of the
complex skill that is piano learning.
